Germany bids farewell to its domestic coal industry

Bottrop, December 21, 2018.

200 years of active coal mining in Germany came to a final close today. The last piece of coal was brought to the surface at the Franz Haniel mine in Bottrop.

More than 500 guests and guests of honor – including German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, and Armin Laschet, Minister President of North Rhine-Westphalia – joined together to bid farewell to an industry that has shaped Germany more than almost any other Industry sector.

Lighting with a difference

Media Spectrum was allowed to provide all stages, special constructions, banners and decoration elements at this high-ranking celebration. Especially elaborate were the six backlit banners on the main stage in the tent. These had a total area of approx. 150m²and were completely backlit with over 20,000 LEDs.

At this point, especially the color matching of the banners was a challenge, because the stage was illuminated with artificial light (warm white) and the LED backlighting is daylight white. In cooperation with the company Niggemeyer, appropriate color adjustments were determined in advance so that the banners also had the appropriate colors in the camera light.
